읽으려고 미리 준비해둔 프리다의 책들을 하나하나 끝내기 시작한 것 같다. 그 중에 한국어로도 번역되어 출간된 하우스메이드 시리즈의 공식적인 2.5권이라고 할 수 있을 것 같은 짧은 버전이다. 저자가 말하길, 다음에 내가 아마 읽을 (The Housemaid Is Watching)이 3권이라고 하니 중간에 생긴 갑작스러운 줄거리 공백을 메꾸려고 한 것이 아닌가 싶다. 가볍게 정말 커피 한 잔과 함께 한 시간 안에 후루룩 읽을 수 있는 책이라고 생각하면 좋을 것 같다. 나는 개인적으로 1권에 너무 감탄을 하면서 프리다의 소설에 푹 빠졌던지라, 2권이 너무 실망스럽고 별로였던 기억이 아직 남아있다. 이미 읽은지가 꽤 되어서 아마 3권을 읽고 나서 2권을 올해 다시 한번 더 읽어볼 의향이 있다. 현재 Kindle/Paperback 버전 모두 3.99 USD에 (한화로 약 6,000원) 구할 수 있다.

근데 앞서 이야기한 것 처럼, 이 책은 프리다가 갑작스럽게 생긴 스토리라인의 공백에 (지금 3권 앞 부분을 읽는 중인데, 그럴수도 있을 것 같다) 궁금증을 느끼는 독자들을 위해 빠르게 집필한 것을 감안해야 할 것이다. 그 말인 즉슨, 큰 감흥을 주는 것이 아니고 그냥 담백하게/가볍게 커피 한 잔과 함께 읽기에 좋은 책이다. 당연히 그러한 점을 고려하면, 독자인 나 역시도 많은 기대를 하는 것이 맞지 않다는 생각도 들고 그래서 가볍게 읽기에 좋았다는 평을 남기고 싶다. 내용이 어렵지도 않고, 어휘가 어려운 것도 전혀 없기에 내가 생각하기에 원래 이런 서스펜스 장르의 소설을 좋아하고 영어 원서를 시작해보고 싶다면 프리다 맥파든의 작품이 정말 좋은 선택이지 않을까 싶다. 그 외에 원래 나처럼 원서 읽는 것을 좋아하는 사람이라면, 더할 나위 없이 추천한다. I would say it was js rlly a cute novel to get a better understanding before I started the next one. Literally, I mean there was not much stuff to even talk about but yea great to see the main character Millie is doing fabulous wit her husband Enzo. (I mean, am I the only one who doesn't have a thing for Italian men in general? Ofc they are hot tho ain't gon lie lmao) And obvi w not a single doubt I didn't even worry about Millie as if she would've gotten brutally murdered by som random guy. (Duh? Yall need to know she is THE main character we all know shit like that would NEVER happen lol) Soooo yea but I didn't see that her handsome husband Enzo was aware of all that from the get-go and GATHERED 💅🏻 the guy in an honorable way lol. A lotta girlies or readers highlighted his corny line, (but tbf I didn't find it cringy either bc it was honestly lowkey cute and we all crave some true love stuff like that lol it's js hard to find the RIGHT person irl) which made me laugh for a sec. YEA enjoyed, liked and cannot wait to finish the next one! 💖
